Job Description

Due to continued growth and investment, Highways England is looking to recruit a new Assistant Category Manager to join our expanding team in Leeds.
The successful candidate will contribute to the achievement of Product Development and Delivery (PDD) work stream objectives by developing new arrangements for assigned products (such as Pavements/Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) /Technology and Gantries/ Capability and Capacity Project (CCP) solutions)


Day to Day

  • Contribute to category strategies by sourcing and gathering credible data and intelligence on assigned category area including mapping the supply chain, seeking to understand the different commercial approaches and business models which exist within the sector.
  • Capture future demand information and continually review changes in the marketplace and industry, reflecting changes within assigned category area to continually develop category strategy and associated category products
  • Actively participate and contribute to knowledge sharing across category areas as well as across the supply chain division in order to encourage exchange of new ideas and best practices. This includes to follow-up on potential opportunity leads (obtained from within the division or external sources) by identifying and sourcing information and sharing relevant findings with the work stream /Supply Chain Division (SCD) as applicable
  • Collaborate with the other work streams (Business Programme Development (BPD) and Market Development and Intelligence (MDI)) to gather and maintain market intelligence on wider Highways England's Supply Chain across all business areas; Assist in converting gathered intelligence into a proposed category strategy to leverage best possible value.
  • Build a network of effective internal and external relationships, including key stakeholder groups fostering collaborative relationships to leverage best possible value for assigned category and associated category products and support continued evolution of supply chain management best practice at Highways England

About you

  • A high level of IT literacy with good numeracy and analytical skills
  • Experience of effectively managing a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of project and risk management
  • Ability to apply market and sector knowledge to develop future commercial arrangements
  • Experience of working in a Commercial, Procurement and/or Supply Chain environment, with a working knowledge of the procurement lifecycle.
